Dear members and friends, ძვირფასო მეგობრებო,
The 39th annual Georgian Studies Day takes place online on Wednesday 4 November, from 10am to about 4pm, and this year’s theme is Georgian food and wine. The full programme is here.
Georgian Studies Day has been running for more than thirty years and brings together people from all over the country with an interest in Georgia. Derek has been to almost every one in that time and tells me that last year’s, the first held online, was the best yet. He speaks himself this year, reporting on our own twinning in the afternoon, alongside our friends from the Newport-Kutaisi association.
The day opens with greetings from the Georgian Ambassador to the UK and the British Ambassador to Georgia. The talks range from the supra and 8,000 years of Georgian wine to heritage wheat, Georgian cheese, the royal table of the Georgian kings, and the people behind two of London’s Georgian restaurants, and Peter Nasmyth, whom many of you know, gives a slide show after lunch. If the subject whets your appetite, John Manley’s talk on the chemistry of Georgian wine follows at the Council House two days later, on 6 November, with wines to taste.
Because the day is online you can join from home and dip in and out as suits you. To attend, please register with Peter Lydyard at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ; the joining details are in the attached programme.
